Elfen Lied is actually a German term that translates to "Elf Song" in English. The title is a reference to a poem by Eduard Mörike, which is featured in the anime and manga series. The poem tells the story of a young elf maiden who dies after being rejected by a human lover. This theme of tragic love and the connection between humans and supernatural beings reflects the central themes of the series, making the title a fitting choice. Additionally, the use of a German title adds to the series' dark and mysterious atmosphere. **

Some viewers appreciate the complex characters, emotional depth, and thought-provoking storyline, while others may find the graphic violence and disturbing content off-putting.
